Microscope 510 is a linen prover, probably dated to the mid-19th century. This instrument would be used for counting threads in fabrics (the number of threads per unit of length provides evidence of a higher quality of cloth). The instrument is not signed but should have a French origin. This instrument was described in catalogues of G Fontaine and Buron as “compte-fils de forme ronde” (Figure 1).
